Starting 19/09/24 for 10 weeks

7.30PM - 9.30PM

Does the Old Testament seem confusing or the detail overwhelming?  Do the books and stories all seem to run together, so that you’re not sure who did what and where it fits in the overall scheme of things?  What would you tell someone who asked you what the overarching story of the Old Testament was?  Can you see how it hangs together?  Or are there so many familiar fragments that belong somewhere that it all seems rather a muddle?

Old Testament Survey is a course that overviews the story of God’s dealing with His people and provides a framework with which to “think through” the Old Testament.  If you would like to connect up the Old Testament stories you know, to fill in some gaps, and to see the “big picture”, then this module is for you.

What will the Course consist of?

The Course will be taught in lecture style in ten two-hour sessions. Each session will be in two parts around a short break. The sessions will initially be taught live over Zoom and will include the opportunity for questions and answers. Subsequently, the sessions will be available as videos for on-demand or catch-up purposes. In that case, questions and answers will be covered by an email link to a course tutor.

The ten sessions will survey the Old Testament and tell the overarching story by means of eleven "picture windows". These picture windows will form a "gallery", giving structure to the Course.

In addition, there will be a Study Guide booklet, consisting of lecture outlines, notes, charts, maps, and Study Guide Questions. Although it will be possible to download and print the Study Guide, it runs to seventy-four pages, and most people will find it much more convenient to purchase this online for home delivery prior to the start of the Course. It is available at cost price from the following link:

After the sessions have been completed, there will be the opportunity to take an online test based mainly on the Study Guide Questions. A successful score will result in a certificate for the Course.

Who should enrol?

  • New believers or those not familiar with the Old Testament story
  • Seasoned believers familiar with the individual stories, but who sometimes get the order or the timeline muddled
  • Anyone else in between!

This Course is for all those who haven't taken the course before. (And even if you have, it would be a good refresher!)
